Location: Half Day Forest Preserve, IL (Outdoor)

 

Today I felt the first hint of fall!  I have mixed feelings about that, but it made for a very comfortable run!  The temperature was in the low 60's, there was a hint of mustiness in the air from the recent rain, and the path was lined with fallen leaves.  Yep... fall is around the corner!

 

It was a really nice run, and while my shin was bothering me a little more than normal, my energy was high and my pace was good.  I racked up another 7.06 miles, which brings my total to... 498.54 miles!  I'm ALMOST half-way to my 1,000 mile goal!  I'm about two weeks behind where I should be, but I am CONFIDENT I will make up for lost ground!

Location: Half Day Forest Preserve, IL (Outdoor)

 

Today I officially CROSSED THE HALF WAY POINT!  Yeah!!!  I finally surpassed the 500 mile mark (505.45 miles to be exact), and it couldn't have been a more georgous day to do it!  It was sunny and 71 degrees, with a hint of a breeze.  The forest preserve was so picturesque, and I savored my time outside - soaking up the serenity of the trail.  I wish every day were like this one!

Location: Life Time Fitness Vernon Hills (Treadmill)

 

In stark contrast to yesterday's splendid weather, today was cold, rainy, and dreary all day long.  I finally gave up on the idea of running outside and headed back to the treadmill for the first time in months.  I do have to admit, it was kind of nice cranking my music and not having to stop for streetlights or worry about traffic - which is usually how my run begins and ends when heading to & from the forest preserve.  Of course, I always like spending time at Life Time Fitness, so they certainly make the treadmill experience a pleasant one!  Anyway, I racked up another 7.2 miles, putting me at 512.65 total miles.  According to my target pace, I should be at  545.21 right now, so I'm still about 33 miles behind where I should be.  That's better than the 49 mile gap I had just one week ago!  I'm making up lost ground, and my shin seems to be tolerating the increased pace.  More stretching and icing... stretching and icing!

Location: Half Day Forest Preserve (Outdoor)

 

It's getting darker a little earlier every night, and it won't be long before it will be too dark and too cold to run on the trail after work.  SIGH.  Oh well, I need to savor the moments I have left!  Tonight was clear and cool with a hint of fall in the air - just the right atmosphere for a run through the forest preserve.  I felt really good tonight, although my shin is still bothering me.  It didn't affect my pace though, which was the best I've had in a while.  I managed to add another 7.19 miles, bringing my total to 519.84.  My target is 547.95, so I've narrowed the gap to 28.11 miles!  Tomorrow night is strength training, so no new miles to log until Wednesday.  I hope to keep up this momentum until I'm back on track with my target pace!

Location: Half Day Forest Preserve (Outdoor)

 

I squeezed in another run in the forest preserve tonight before it got dark.  It was sprinkling when I headed out to the trail, and there were some rather ominous clouds with cracks of lightening just to the south of me, but it looked like it was going to stay south so I took my chances.  It turned out to be a good run, and weather was not an issue.  I maintained a strong pace and actually made it further on the trail than I've ever been!  I racked up another 7.31 miles to bring my total to 527.15.  My target pace is 553.42, so I've narrowed the gap to just over 26 miles.  I'm gaining ground!  I'll be traveling tomorrow and Friday, but hopefully I can squeeze in a run after I arrive home Friday night.  We'll see.  I'd like to keep up this momentum!
